Lemann Center Research Grants for U of I Faculty

The Lemann Center Research Grants provide funding opportunities for University of Illinois (U of I) faculty members engaged in research related to Brazil.

Grant Amount: We are pleased to announce the 2024 grants, which offer up to two awards per year, with a maximum value of $20,000. The actual award value is determined based on the project's type, scope, and the budget approved by the Lemann Center. Please note that certain expenses may not be covered.

Eligibility: These grants are available to all full-time U of I faculty members who are actively developing research projects focused on Brazil. Applicants must demonstrate a sufficient command of Portuguese to successfully execute their proposed projects.

Lemann Center Collaborative Research Grants

In addition to individual research grants, the Lemann Center also encourages collaborative research initiatives between U of I faculty and their counterparts in universities and public research institutions in Brazil. These Collaborative Research Grants foster partnerships and knowledge exchange, contributing to a deeper understanding of Brazil's social, economic, and cultural landscape.

Grant Amount: Up to $20,000 (depending on the project proposal and budget) for one year of collaborative research.

Eligibility: These grants are open to all UIUC full-time faculty members developing research projects in collaboration with their Brazilian counterparts. At least one faculty member from UIUC must be included in the application.

Lemann/FAPESP Collaborative Research Grants

The Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies-FAPESP provides funding for the initial phase of international research collaboration between UIUC faculty and faculty members from universities and public research institutions in São Paulo (and sponsored by FAPESP, The São Paulo Research Foundation). The funding is aimed at proposals to enhance researchers’ mobility and to provide seed funding.

Award: Up to $10,000 (depending on the project proposal and budget) for a duration of up to 24 months. 

Eligibility: These grants are open to all UIUC full-time faculty members developing research projects in collaboration with their Brazilian counterparts in São Paulo. At least one faculty member from UIUC must be included in the application. Please note that the Brazilian partners must have a current project funded by FAPESP to be eligible for the SPRINT.
