Lemann Distinguished Visiting Professor, Spring 2022

Professor Jobim was a professor of Literature at the Universidade Federal Fluminense, his research focuses on territory, memory, and migration in some 16 books and several dozens of articles in Brazilian and international journals during his 30-year career. He was a full professor at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), where he was Director of the Institute of Literature and Coordinator of the Literature Program. Professor Jobim was a member of the Camões Prize committee in 2017 and 2018, the most important literary prize in Portuguese-speaking countries. He was President of the Brazilian Comparative Literature Association, and he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University, University of Manchester, Sapienza Universitá di Roma, Universidad de Chile, and Universidad de la Republica (Uruguay), among others. During the Spring 2022 semester, Jobim taught a course on Brazilian cultural and literary production and worked on research regarding Brazilian Modernism, a timely topic given the centenary of the Semana de Arte Moderna (Modern Art Week) from 1922.
