This travel grant supports University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from all colleges and schools who are presenting research on Brazil at national or international conferences. Applicants must have their work accepted for presentation and be the presenting author. Awards provide up to $1,000 for domestic travel and $2,000 for international travel.
Deadlines:
There are two application cycles each year, with deadlines on September 15 and February 15 at 11:59 p.m. Applications will be reviewed by members of the Lemann Center Faculty Advisory Board and/or affiliated faculty. Proposed travel must take place within 12 months of the award notification and after the award results are released. Retroactive funding will not be considered.
Application:
Your application should include:
1. Cover letter (max. 1 page): Briefly describe your graduate or postdoctoral program and explain how presenting your research at the conference will contribute to your research development and career goals.
2. Conference information: Name, date, and location of the conference.
3. Proof of acceptance: Documentation confirming acceptance of your abstract/presentation.
4. Budget: An estimated budget limited to the following eligible expenses: 1) membership/registration fees, 2) lodging, 3) transportation, and 4) international health insurance.
Submit one PDF file containing all the required information Box folder. Please name your file using the following format: LastName, FirstName – DeptAbbrev – Travel_Grants2026_2027.
International Travel Insurance
All University employees traveling internationally on university business must enroll in international travel insurance through the appropriate university travel and coverage website. Recipient Expectations
Conference Travel Grant recipients will be invited to present a brown-bag talk as part of the LC lecture series or share their research with the LC community in other ways.
