This scholarship supports University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign undergraduate students who are applying to or have been accepted to an approved study abroad or internship program in Brazil. Scholarships of up to $2,000 are awarded based on the program's cost, length, and available funds. Proof of program acceptance is required before award disbursement.
To be eligible, students must be in good standing. Also be in the process of applying to, or being accepted to, a study abroad or internship program in Brazil. Proof of program acceptance is required before award disbursement.
Deadlines:
There are two application cycles each year, with deadlines on:
September 15 for winter break, spring break, or spring semester programs.
February 15 for summer short-term, summer, fall semester, or academic-year programs.
Application:
Your application should include:
1. Download and fill out this cover sheet.
2. 1-page resume
3. Short description (~100 words) about the study abroad program
4. Up to a 2-page essay that describes how the study abroad will impact your academic and career trajectory and why you are interested in Brazil
5. One recommendation from a professor or academic advisor
6. Academic Transcript
7. Optional: a 100-word statement describing financial need
Applicants must submit the above information to the Box account below, all compiled in one file with a title in the following format: LastName, FirstName – DeptAbbrev – Undergrad2026_2027.

Applicants should arrange for the appropriate faculty member to upload the letter of recommendation. The filename should be LastName, FirstName – DeptAbbrev – Undergrad2026_2027 – RecommenderInitals.pdf.

Recipient Expectations
Upon returning to campus, students should submit a one-page reflection along with at least one photograph from their trip. The Lemann Center may use these materials on its website, in flyers, and in other publications and promotional materials. Students may also be invited to share their study abroad experience at a Lemann Center event.
